Refrigerants are the substances used to provide cooling in appliances and they come in many different types, each with its own properties.
The new generation of refrigerant, R32 releases up to 72% less carbon emissions than the R410A, and has low Global Warming Potential (GWP [1]), as well as zero ozone depleting potential (ODP).
Simply Put, the R32 refrigerant is a more climate-friendly refrigerant that can help you meet your everyday cooling needs in a more sustainable way!
Choose R32 by spotting Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) ’s climate-friendly label when you are looking for your new aircon.
Restriction on the supply of RAC equipment using high-GWP refrigerants
Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are commonly used as refrigerants in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning (RAC) equipment and have high Global Warming Potential (GWP [1]). When emitted into the environment, HFCs are many times more potent than carbon dioxide in contributing to global warming.
NEA has stepped up efforts to reduce the use of HFCs by implementing licensing controls on HFCs from 1 January 2019, with the aim of establishing a better national baseline level. NEA will be progressively phasing out RAC equipment that use high-GWP refrigerants, starting with those with climate-friendly alternatives. Come 2022, the NEA will be phasing out air-conditioners with high GWP, for more climate friendly options.
Future-proof yourself by opting for a R32 refrigerant type aircon today!

Footnotes:
[1] Global warming potential (GWP) is a measure of the warming effect of a gas relative to the warming effect of an equivalent mass of CO2, usually over a 100-year time horizon.
