In July 2019, we installed the very first set of Daikin’s i-Smile air-conditioning system that reached the shores of our sunny island. We are honoured to be the first company in Singapore to install i-Smile, a series that has successfully replaced the smile series to become one of the top selling residential aircon series.
Till date we constantly receive enquiries on what is the difference between the two, despite smile series being an obsolete series (no longer being produced).
Although they look the same in terms of exterior, here is what makes i-smile the progressive series
BUILT-IN SMART CONTROL
The most noticeable difference is the inclusion of a built-in wireless LAN connecting adaptor card, this allows the user to control the air conditioner from anywhere via smartphone.
Whereas previously (Smile) the adaptor card for smart control had to be purchased separately. This additional purchase could set you back by between $350 to $1,400, depending on the number of cards you require. To those who consider the cup half full, this essentially would be considered a saving as well.
FILTER
In pursuit of better air, filtration is one way to trap those pesky little air contaminants such as dust, bacteria and allergens.
With the i-Smile, comes the newly added Dust Collection PM2.5 Filter, quality of indoor air can be improved and in turn contributes to a cleaner indoor environment. The PM 2.5 filter collects particles as small as 2.5 microns passing through the filter. The PM2.5 filter cannot be cleaned and it is recommended to be replaced every six months.
Whereas the smile series came with a Titanium Apatite Deodorizing filter. Titanium Apatite is said to be an advance material with micron-level fibres which traps dust, absorbs and decomposes bacteria. Titanium Apatite Deodorizing filter can be used for up to three years with proper maintenance.
If you have a preference between the PM2.5 filter and Titanium Apatite Deodorizing filter, you will be happy to hear that the filter assembly case for both matches so there is the option of choice the next time you replace the filter.
OUTDOOR UNIT LINE UP
A smaller cooling capacity is added into the line-up of outdoor units for the i-smile. This 4th option is the smallest in cooling capacity for the series and caters to places with smaller rooms or only need to cool 1 to 3 rooms.
While the other 3 options have the same capacity as its predecessor in the smile series. With 2 outdoor options that can be connected up to 4 rooms and lastly the option with the highest cooling capacity outdoor unit is able to be connected up to 5 rooms.
Now you know what is the difference between the Daikin i-Smile and Smile series.
